Why Virat Kohli is on rest?

BCCI has not given any official reason as to why the star player who is obviously in top form is being dropped from the team. However, experts and sources suggest that the decision has been taken keeping in mind the T-20 Asia Cup which will take place in Bangladesh right after the tour of Sri Lanka. The T-20 Asia Cup will be further followed by the ICC World Twenty20 which is planned to be held in India from the second week of March. Experts speculate that these are the reasons behind providing rest to the star player.

In the recent announcement on Monday, BCCI announced the name of the players who will play in the India Vs Sri Lanka T20 Series. MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Manish Pandey, Suresh Raina, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pawan Negi have been named as the members of the India Vs Sri Lanka T20 squad.

Who will play in the place of Virat Kohli?

Well, apparently, Manish Pandey has been chosen by the BCCI as the replace for Virat Kohli for the Sri Lanka series. Manish Pandey Surely has some big shoes to fill against Sri Lanka. Manish Pandey is a proven middle order batsman who has proved his mettle earlier too. Manish Pandey scored a match-winning century in the Sydney. His immaculate performance against the Kangaroos is believed to be the primary reason for the young batsman’s selection.

Apart from Manish Pandey, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and rookie Pankaj Negi have been included in the squad. High hopes have been placed on all of them. Negi has proved his mettle in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy in January as well as in IPL.

Who all have been dropped from the team?

Apart from Virat Kohli, a number of other players have also been dropped from the team. Rishi Dhawan, Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Umesh Yadav have failed to make it in the team for the series against Sri Lanka. All three of them did not give any major performance in the Australian series. This is the major reason for them not making into the team for the series against Sri Lanka.

Along with the Twenty20 team, BCCI also declared the team for Twenty20 International Women and ODI Team Women. Both the teams will be lead by Mithali Raj.

Let us hope for a fun filled and competitive series filled with sporting glory.
